Spinach

Spinach plants in flower

Spinach is one of the farms prime spring crops and it was one of the first crops we started selecting and growing when the farm was created. Our spinach always sells out as soon as we have it. Our mixture is made up of all the varieties listed except Kootenay Giant as these leaves are to big to put into the spinach bags.

Growing spinach for seed takes dedication - as it is wind pollinated we have to separate varieties by time and distance. Luckily in our valley, the wind for 99% of the time is North - South, so separation from one end of the farm (East - West) takes care of one problem. The other is taken care of by planting enough at different times to account for the vagaries of weather and temperature.
